Back in the day, players made free-throws a lot differently. How many can you make?

The challenges of creating a virtual country with cities, villages, highways, mountains and a distinct (or so it seems) class differential between it’s people are gargantuan. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Rough map of the Our Good Leader country.

Rough map of the Our Good Leader country.

In this progress journal for Our Good Leader, we’ll focus on the very rough prototype map. The main city and villages haven’t been implemented yet, but this gives you an idea of the scale. A river cuts through the country, a metaphor of sorts of the fractured nation. On the far bottom right side you’ll see a small, but important island.

Though the map looks like a desert, it isn’t.

As progress continues, these are the key points one must consider:

What was “made” far away in a non-literal sense?
In other words, what is separated not by physical distance, but a “class” distance. This is very important, because it essentially guides the placement of important elements on the map. Maybe, because of social status, the poor are regulated in the distant countryside, while the rich enjoy a somewhat of a better standard of living in the cities.

What is naturally far away?
This is the terrain factor. It alters the daily lives of the citizens, especially in a country that has an oppressive government. The simplicity of a water facet may not exist. Citizens in poor class must walk miles to replenish daily resources, no matter the weather conditions.

What does the “regime” want far away?
An oppressive ruler would want certain things far away from the people, like their personal palace. Prisons and certain military related equipment/programs are in remote areas, hidden away from scrutiny.

What should be close?
Keeping a close eye on the people (while making it appear that they aren’t) is important. A strong show of force squashes any call for an uprising… or does it?

These are some of the things being kept in mind as the sculpting of this ambitious project continues.
